About Testicular Prosthesis Placement
A testicular prosthesis placement is a procedure that uses testicular implants to restore the appearance, weight, and feeling of your testicles and scrotum.
There are several reasons why a man may lose one or both of his testicles, including trauma, testicular torsion, cancer, congenital concerns, and more. (1) While these issues affect hundreds of thousands of men worldwide, they can lead to a lowered sense of body positivity and masculinity. Through testicular prosthesis placement, Dr. Bidair can correct each of your concerns and help instill a newfound sense of confidence within you.
Available Types of Implants
Dr. Bidair offers several different types of testicular implants, including saline-filled and silicone-filled implants. The type he uses during your procedure will vary depending on your existing anatomy, desired results, and preferences, but both options offer unique benefits and natural-looking results.
- Saline-Filled Implants: Saline testicle implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution and filled after being placed in the scrotum.
- Silicone-Filled Implants: Silicone-filled implants are filled with a soft, cohesive gel. They offer a more natural feel that mimics organic testicular tissue.
Benefits
Testicular prosthesis placement offers several benefits, including:
- A Restored Appearance: Testicular prosthesis placement can restore the natural appearance of your scrotum and testes.
- Improved Symmetry: Dr. Bidair can perform this procedure to restore a balanced and even appearance between the testicles.
- Varying Treatment Options: Dr. Bidair offers both silicone and saline-filled implants, allowing you to fully customize your results.
- An Enhanced Masculinity: Restoring the appearance of your intimate structures can elevate your sense of self-confidence and masculinity.
- Natural Effects: Testicular prosthetics are designed to look, feel, and weigh similarly to natural testicles.
- Lasting Results: Testicular prosthesis placement yields durable and long-lasting results that you can enjoy for years to come.
- Tailored Solutions: Dr. Bidair customizes every procedure according to the anatomy, needs, and goals of his patients.
Candidates
You may be an ideal candidate for testicular prosthesis placement if you are missing one or both testicles as a result of genetics, trauma, cancer, spermatic cord torsion, or another medical condition. If the native testicles are very atrophic, testicular prostheses can be placed while leaving the native atrophic testicles in place. You may also benefit from testicular prosthesis placement if you identify as a transgender man and want to undergo this procedure as a form of gender-affirming care.
To undergo this procedure, you should be in good general health without any underlying medical conditions that may affect your recovery or results. Preferably, you should also be nonsmoking or willing to quit using nicotine altogether. Dr. Bidair and his team will assess your candidacy during your personal consultation.
Personal Consultation
Attending a personal consultation is the first step to restoring your sense of masculinity. During this meeting, Dr. Bidair will converse with you individually to learn more about how he can help. He will describe how he performs this procedure, review your medical history, and discuss your desired results. He will also perform a physical evaluation of the treatment area, which may include detailed measurements.
Dr. Bidair will then use this information alongside your goals to finalize your candidacy and create your one-of-a-kind treatment plan. He will explain your options to you and help you find the most suitable pair of implants for your needs. He will also provide you with detailed preparation and aftercare instructions so you have a full understanding of what to expect. Through this combination of open conversation and thorough evaluation, Dr. Bidair can provide you with a treatment plan that helps you achieve each of your aesthetic goals.
If you are ready to schedule this consultation, we invite you to contact us online. You may also call (619) 486-5005 to reach our San Diego office.
Preparation
Once you schedule your procedure, Dr. Bidair will give you a detailed set of preparation instructions. They include:
- Avoiding Certain Medications: Under the proper medical guidance, discontinue using blood-thinning medications and supplements.
- Taking Time Off: Arrange to take some time away from your career and personal responsibilities to give yourself time to recover.
- Arranging At-Home Care: Have a trusted friend or relative drive you home from your procedure and stay with you for the first several days afterwards, if needed.
- Running Errands: Pick up any medications you will need throughout your recovery and rearrange your home to create a comfortable environment to rest in.
- Stop Using Substances: If applicable, stop consuming nicotine or alcohol in the weeks before your procedure, as well as the weeks following it.
Procedure
When you arrive for your procedure, a member of the California Adult Circumcision team will help you get checked in before leading you to a private treatment room. They will cleanse your skin before you receive anesthesia to ensure your comfort. The type of anesthesia you receive will vary depending on the extent of your procedure, but Dr. Bidair can place testicular prosthetics using general anesthesia, total intravenous anesthesia, or local anesthesia with heavy sedation. (2)
Once you are comfortable, Dr. Bidair will make a small incision near either your groin or scrotum. He will then create a pocket within the scrotum itself, sizing it perfectly to match your prosthetic testicle. He will then place and secure the implant within the pocket before closing the incision using sutures. You will then be transported to a recovery room to briefly rest before Dr. Bidair releases you home.
Recovery
After your testicular prosthesis placement, you will need to take some time to yourself. Initially, you can expect to experience some swelling, bruising, and general discomfort. These effects will subside on their own with time, but you may manage them using medications and plenty of rest. Dr. Bidair may also give you a specialized pair of underwear or supportive garment to wear, which will minimize further swelling as you heal.
We recommend that you begin integrating gentle movements and light walks into your routine as soon as you feel ready. You may return to work and other nonstrenuous tasks after resting for approximately 1 to 2 weeks. However, you should avoid any demanding or sexual activities until you have completely recovered.
If you live in the San Diego area, Dr. Bidair will have you return for follow-up appointments to monitor your healing progression. If you reside outside the general region, follow-ups will be completed through secure emails. Dr. Bidair will provide you with additional instructions when meeting with you in person.
Results
You will notice immediate improvements after your procedure, but your results will continue to refine themselves as you continue to heal. While they will vary for each patient, you can expect improved symmetry, enhanced volume, and a more natural-looking scrotum overall. Many men also find that undergoing this procedure instills them with a newfound sense of self-confidence, body positivity, and masculinity that they can carry with them in every situation.
