A botched circumcision refers to when the surgical procedure of removing the foreskin from the penis is not performed correctly. It can happen for various reasons, leading to complications such as:

Personal Consultation
When you meet with Dr. Bidair for your consultation, you will first discuss your previous circumcision and any past revisions. If you received your circumcision as an infant, we do not expect you to have the full details. You will discuss your motivations behind wanting to revise your circumcision results. You will also discuss the complications you are facing as a result; both the mental and physical ones. Dr. Bidair will also review your medical history to screen for any potential risks, allergic reactions, or other complications that may occur during your revision circumcision. Once he has collected all of the necessary information, he will create a procedural plan that is specific to your case and ensures optimal results.
Preparation
Revision circumcisions are minimally invasive procedures performed with a local anesthetic, so very little preparation is required. You will not have to fast, alter your diet, or adjust your medications before your procedure. However, we still recommend taking a few beneficial preparations to reduce stress and maximize comfort following your procedure.

Procedure
Your specific revision circumcision procedure will depend on your individual circumstances. Typically, more foreskin, with possible scars, irregular cut lines or suture marks, is removed to create a neater, more attractive appearance and improve function. This also helps to reduce the risk of phimosis, a condition where the foreskin has trouble returning to its original position once pulled behind the head of the penis.
Revision circumcisions employ techniques similar to standard circumcisions. All circumcision procedures take special caution to minimize bleeding and preserve sensation in the head of the penis.
Recovery
It is important to take care of the treatment area after your procedure to minimize the risks of infection or any other complications. The groin and genital areas are prone to excessive sweating, so we recommend washing your incisions at least twice per day. Normal body wash or soap can be used, but most patients find that hand soap or facial cleansers are much more pleasant and gentle on sensitive skin. All patients must change their dressings as necessary. These dressings will typically cover the entire penis shaft and have additional gauze or cotton above the incision sites. (1) Dr. Bidair recommends using gauze and bandages when applying new dressings. Any Band-Aids or adhesive dressings can cause discomfort when they are removed from the penis. Our patients typically experience a healing time of 4 weeks. (1) However, there is still healing and remodeling that takes place for 3 to 6 months before the final result. Some men heal faster and others heal slower. It is important to avoid any form of sexual activity for at least 3 weeks.
