What is Scrotox?

Scrotox is a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that involves the use of Botox injections in the scrotum. Botulinum toxin is the active ingredient in Botox, an injectable substance that relaxes muscles and inhibits their contraction. When administered to the facial muscles, patients enjoy renewed skin texture with fewer wrinkles, making it an effective skin rejuvenation treatment. For treatment of the scrotum area, patients can find relief from chronic scrotal pain (CSP) and enjoy a more youthful and smoother scrotum. It can make this intimate area appear larger, reduce sweating, and in some cases, improve sexual pleasure.

If you are looking to feel more confident and comfortable in intimate situations, an experienced urologist like Dr. Mo Bidair can help. During your consultation at his San Diego office, he can explain more details about the minimally invasive Scrotox procedure and if it is right for you. His practice centers around delivering personalized care that is sensitive to men’s needs. He specializes in highly intricate adult circumcision procedures.

To get started today, call (619) 486-5005 or inquire with his contact form, and his staff will guide you through the next steps for scheduling your appointment.

What is Scrotox?

Botulinum toxin has had many applications throughout the years and dates back to the 1970s. Aside from Botox to eliminate wrinkles from repetitive facial expressions, botulinum toxin has several health applications. Research finds that it is suitable for the treatment of lazy eye, excessive sweating, enlargement of jaw muscles (a condition called masseter hypertrophy), muscular spasm disorders, and even chronic migraine disorders. (1) A recent 2018 study found that botulinum toxin has the potential to treat cases of erectile dysfunction (ED) since it can relax the corpus cavernosum smooth muscle in the penis, allowing it to fill with blood and promoting better erections. (2)

Scrotox is the general name for botulinum toxin designated for the scrotum area. Injectors specifically target the cremaster muscle, the tissue that allows for the retraction and expansion of the scrotum. They may also administer the treatment to the dartos muscle, another tissue involved in scrotal contraction during sexual activity and temperature regulation. Just a small dosage of Scrotox can relieve chronic pain and create aesthetically pleasing results that do not interfere with the natural functioning of the scrotum.

Scrotox for Chronic Scrotal Pain and Sweating

Scrotal pain can be an embarrassing and confusing issue for many men and is the cause of around 2.5% to 5% of all urology appointments. (3) Pain that persists for 3 months or more may be considered a condition called chronic orchialgia. While it may be caused by infection, trauma, or surgery such as a vasectomy or hernia repair, oftentimes, there is no identifiable cause. While some local and oral anesthetics can give men the relief they are looking for, Scrotox can relieve tension and constriction from overactive scrotal muscles for months. Just like Botox for the facial muscles, the proteins typically sustain these pain-relieving effects for 3 to 4 months. In addition to this relaxation, botulinum toxin can block nerve signals that provoke sweat glands to release sweat. This can make daily life much more comfortable for men with hyperhidrosis since the groin stays clean, dry, and odor-free.

Scrotox for Aesthetic Appearance

Scrotox has the added benefit of eliminating wrinkles and keeping them at a lower position with more fullness. The injections themselves will not harm the testicles or interfere with sexual activity. In fact, many men who undergo this procedure find that it heightens scrotal sensation during these intimate moments. The relaxation of the muscles that make the scrotum larger can be more pleasurable for sexual partners as well.

Candidates

Healthy men of any age can choose Scrotox for aesthetic or medical purposes so long as they do not have a neuromuscular disorder or an infection in the area. Dr. Bidair will ask you about your medical history and history of pain or trauma to help him determine if Scrotox is right for you. If you have experienced a scrotal injury, Dr. Bidair may conduct other evaluations to ensure he treats the root cause of your discomfort.

Personal Consultation

By scheduling a consultation, Dr. Bidair will ask you about your cosmetic concerns and any medical issues concerning your scrotum. If he finds that you are an ideal candidate, he will provide you with more personalized instructions regarding preparation, the injection procedure itself, and when you can expect results. He will also give you guidance on when to come into the office for a touch-up to sustain these results. As a protein that has been used in medical practices for several decades, botulinum toxin injections can provide safe, long-lasting effects for the appearance and function of your scrotum.

Preparation

You do not need to do much to prepare for these minimally invasive injections, but you should stop taking blood thinning medications a few days before your treatment. This will help prevent bruising or bleeding. On the day of the treatment or the day just before, you should trim or shave the scrotum. Dr. Bidair will then be able to cleanse the skin more efficiently.

Scrotox Procedure Steps

Just like standard Botox, a Scrotox procedure is straightforward. Dr. Bidair will perform it following these simple steps:

  • He will cleanse the scrotal skin with an alcohol wipe to prevent infection.
  • He will apply numbing cream to the area to reduce discomfort.
  • After the cream settles in fully, he will mark the areas where he will administer the botulinum toxin. This mostly includes the dartos muscle, but he may also target the cremaster muscle.
  • He will prepare to make the injections, which may be combined with lidocaine to make the procedure much more comfortable.
  • With an extremely fine needle, he will make several injections into these muscles and the scrotal skin, avoiding the testicles themselves.
  • He will clean up any pinpoint bleeding on the scrotal skin.

Aftercare and Results

Since Scrotox is an outpatient procedure, you will be able to return home immediately after your injections. You will notice any immediate improvement in the scrotal skin and its positioning, but the full results will take a few days to settle in completely. You may have some mild irritation or swelling in the area, but this will recede completely within a couple of days. For the first day, you should avoid or reduce exercising, sexual activity, and lifting heavy objects for a few days to reduce these side effects. You should also avoid touching the treatment area to ensure the medication takes effect in the right location within the muscle. Aside from these aftercare steps, you should be able to return to work and other daily activities as usual.

Your scrotum will appear fuller and more youthful after any irritation subsides and will maintain this state for about 3 to 4 months- the average length of time that Botox stays active in the muscle. For men with chronic scrotal pain (CSP), botulinum toxin has been proven to help a majority of patients find relief for months at a time. (4) These injections can also resolve symptoms of hyperhidrosis, eliminating the need for antiperspirants and other drying products.

Cost of Scrotox in San Diego

If you have a documented history of hyperhidrosis or CSP, your insurance may be able to provide coverage for your Scrotox injections. If you are interested in these injections for aesthetic purposes, you will have to make an out-of-pocket payment. Dr. Bidair will give you an accurate cost estimate during your consultation. If you are ready to take the next step into reclaiming a more youthful, masculine appearance or find relief from your symptoms, speak to Dr. Bidair. You can submit photos online and inquire about a phone consultation if this is more convenient.

FAQ

Do Scrotox injections hurt?

Scrotox injections can be uncomfortable, but your injector can make the process highly tolerable with the use of topical anesthesia and lidocaine within the formulation itself. Injectors are also mindful of using extremely fine, sharp needles to ensure that dullness does not cause any additional discomfort.

How often can I get Scrotox injections?

Scrotox injections are usually effective for at least 3 months, so you will have to wait until this time period is up before undergoing another treatment session.

Is Scrotox safe?

Scrotox is safe because it utilizes a highly researched substance, botulinum toxin. Injectors are careful to apply small amounts that are appropriate for the scrotum. They also skillfully avoid injecting the testicles themselves.

Does Scrotox make sex better?

Men who enjoy scrotal stimulation during sexual activity may find that Scrotox increases their sensitivity. The scrotum hangs lower and exhibits a fuller appearance as well.

Does Scrotox reduce sperm count?

Scrotox will not reduce sperm count because injectors do not inject into the testicles themselves. They specifically target the skin and the cremaster and dartos smooth muscles.
